Cameras and GDPR in Spain: what to know if you are new here

If you have installed cameras in another country, it helps to know that Spain has specific rules on recording images, shaped by the GDPR and Spanish data-protection law. For a private home the essentials are simple:

• Record only your own property. Cameras should point at your plot, your entrance and your access points. They must not record the public street, a neighbour's house, or a shared beach or road beyond what is strictly necessary to protect your entrance.
• Information sign. There must be a visible sign informing that the area is under video surveillance. We tell you about it and provide it.
• Private use. The footage is for your security and, where relevant, to hand to the police — not to publish.
